Virginia has added added about 1,400 miles of streams and rivers, and 2,500 acres of lakes, to its list of waters that are "impaired," or polluted.

The numbers are in a report released today by the state Department of Environmental Quality.

The draft report, dubbed the "dirty-waters list," is released every two years.

More than 430 waters have been removed from the list because they now meet water-quality standards, state officials said.
