This is one in a series of "Business Launchpad Academy" classes offered by the department.
Prince George uses donated radios
Prince George County, in partnership with Comm-Tronics of Virginia, received radio equipment from DSC-Logistics of Chesterfield County.
DSC-Logistics recently upgraded its radio system, leaving a surplus of equipment that was not compatible with the new system it purchased.
Wes Caudill with Comm-Tronics of Virginia contacted Prince George officials to see if the equipment could be used. Deputy Director Brad Owens met with Caudill, Matt Bradley and Mike Johnson from DSC-Logistics to review the inventory of surplus equipment.
The equipment lets Prince George Fire and EMS add portable radios to its vehicles and adds radios for training purposes.
Emergency heating help available in Hanover
Low-income residents who have heating emergencies might be eligible for crisis assistance, a federal program administered by the Hanover County Department of Social Services. Applications will be accepted through March 15 or until money runs out.
Crisis assistance can help eligible households when fuel assistance or other resources cannot meet the need. A heating emergency could be a lack of heat, an imminent cutoff of utilities, or inoperable or unsafe heating equipment.
Funds may be used to pay your utility security deposit, buy a portable space heater or primary home heating fuel, pay your primary heat utility bill, repair or replace heating equipment, or provide supplemental heating equipment.
For information or to request an application, call Hanover Social Services at (804) 365-4103.
