Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Jerry W. Kilgore will take a leadership role in Virginia in the Tim Pawlenty presidential campaign.
"He is a candidate who can unite the party next year on all conservative issues," Kilgore said in an e-mail.
Pawlenty is a former governor of Minnesota. He has set up a presidential exploratory committee.
Kilgore said it is premature to talk about his role in the campaign because Pawlenty isn't officially a candidate.
Kilgore lost to Democrat Timothy M. Kaine in the race for governor in 2005.
