Cain coming to Richmond for Family Foundation gala
Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain will keynote The Family Foundation's annual gala Oct. 8 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.
In the past, former Ark. Gov. Mike Huckabee and Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana have addressed the hundreds who turn out to the conservative group's annual event.
Cain, former CEO of Godfather's Pizza and a former chairman of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, was among the speakers last October at the Virginia Tea Party Patriots Convention in Richmond.

Connolly disappointed by Cantor's walkout from talks
Rep. Gerald E. Connolly, D-11th, used Twitter on Thursday to register his dismay when House Majority Leader Eric Cantor pulled out of bipartisan deficit reduction talks headed by Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
"Disappointed @EricCantor pulled out of budget talks," Connolly's tweet read. "Virginians NEED both sides to work 2gether & resolve impasse. Hope he reconsiders."
Six days earlier, Connolly used Twitter to endorse the "golf summit" that paired President Barack Obama with Speaker of the House John A. Boehner. Connolly also put in a plug for the Fairfax County course.
"Encouraging @BarackObama & @johnboehner to play Laurel Hill GC in Lorton," Connolly tweeted. "Grt @fairfaxcounty public course."

Virginia.gov website undergoes revamping
Virginia's online face has had some freshening.
The revamped Virginia.gov prominently features social-media tools, Virginia-related apps, videos and mapping tools.
The site quietly launched last night after a rocky trial run a week or two ago that exposed some kinks to be ironed out.
YouTube and Flickr photo feeds are on the main page, as is a mapping tool, Twitter feeds and updates from Facebook. Visitors can scroll through a list of Virginia-related apps from Virginia Commonwealth University's tool to the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to Virginia Grown, which helps people locate locally made products.
The same functions from the old page appear to be available, including a calendar listing official government meetings that are open to the public.

GOP Senate candidate Jackson wants Holder to quit
Republican U.S. Senate candidate E.W. Jackson is calling for U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder's resignation in the wake of a botched gun-trafficking operation blamed for putting weapons in the hands of a border agent's killers.
While Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives acting Director Kenneth Melson is facing increasing pressure to step down, Jackson's putting the blame on Holder.
One of the three ATF agents who blew the whistle on the program, dubbed "Fast and Furious," told a Congressional committee hearing that the operation helped arm drug cartels in an attempt to locate major weapons trackers.
But when Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was found murdered in Arizona last year, two weapons at the scene were linked to the ATF program.
"This was a failure of leadership throughout ATF and ultimately the responsibility of Attorney General Eric Holder," said Jackson. "As a result of his policies and decisions, an American border patrol agent was murdered using guns he allowed to be sold to Mexican drug cartels."
During a May congressional hearing on the incident, Holder said he had learned about the operation in the last few weeks.
"It is the policy of this Justice Department to make sure that we do all that we can to protect law enforcement agents," Holder said.
