The race for Richmond County commonwealth’s attorney is still being determined this morning after 16-year incumbent Wayne L. Emery’s fierce write-in campaign that followed him being tossed off the ballot for filing improper paperwork.
Emery clung to a 1,142-1,087 margin over challenger James Monroe, a defense attorney.
But Registrar Charlotte M. Pierson said the electoral board is still determining exactly how many of the write-in votes are Emery’s.
Emery failed to qualify for the ballot after it was determined that his voter petitions were improperly circulated on single-sided sheets of paper. A new State Board of Elections regulation requires candidates to circulate a double-sided form.
