NORFOLK — A Norfolk funeral home owner is heading to court in an attempt to keep the business open following the suspension of its license.
The Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers suspended Carlos A. Howard Funeral's license this week and ordered the business to close, pending a March 8 hearing.
The board says the funeral home improperly prepared the body of a gunshot victim that it sent to a funeral home in Philadelphia in July.
According to the order, the body was leaking embalming fluid and bullet marks were visible.
Media outlets report that owner Carlos Howard filed a petition Thursday in Norfolk Circuit Court seeking a temporary injunction blocking the board's action. A hearing is set for this afternoon.
Howard tells media outlets that he hasn't done anything wrong.
