Vibe magazine shut down today
Hip-hop magazine Vibe shut down today, 16 years after it was founded by Quincy Jones.
That will leave just one other major national hip-hop magazine, The Source.
The announcement was made today by Steve Aaron, Vibe Media Group's chief executive officer.
"It is with a heavy heart that I share some tough news, VMG is closing down effective today, June 30 due to lack of additional financial investments," Aaron said in a memo.
Jones founded Vibe in 1993, and it was purchased in 2005 by a private equity company.

No big loss. You reap what you sow.
Reminds me of a few years back living in a very liberal Democrat NE city. The abusers of the public trust kept running out of our money to spend so they passed a .10 per drink tax on alcohol purchased in restaurants and nightclubs.
Of course, the restaurant and nightclub attendance dropped and the suburban clubs benefited.
Being I had to entertain for my job, I added up the tax on my bill. I subtracted .10 for each drink purchased from my tip.
I figured, I didn’t vote for the incompetent Democrats running the city but most likely, the artsy, effeminate waiters did.
Why should I be punished?
I guess the Hip-Hop crowd now mostly communicates with each other on the web!
That’s probably a good thing!
There will come a time when we will be glad we did not harvest those trees!
I think drhoagie summed it up nicely. I guess the $13 a week from the stimulus package wasn’t enough…sigh…
Screamin’ A. Smith.
Silenced.
Where is Stephen A Smith going to write now?
Well I guess if noone buys them they cant stay in business. No one represeh-en?
Some people are so shallow…like drhoagie….
Now the hip-hop community can thank themselves for their vote in November.
