"Spark of Life," a show of abstract acrylic-on-canvas paintings by Richmond artist Sabrina Cordovana, is on display at the Science Museum of Virginia.

In her artist's statement, Cordovana said, "These paintings are inspired by that everlasting question, 'How did life begin?' "

Cordovana is intrigued by the "spark of life, which gives a seed the power to open or gives a heart the energy to beat for the first time." The structures, layers of transparent paint and opaque elements in her works are symbolic of this spark.

The paintings sell for $100 to $500. The exhibition runs through Oct.31 at 2500 W. Broad St. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For details, call (804) 864-1400 or visit http://www.smv.org. To buy a painting, contact the artist at (804) 897-3312.-- Jo Lord
