Students receive leadership training in Wakefield

Four area students attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards conference Feb. 14-16 at the 4-H Airfield Center in Wakefield. The all-expenses-paid leadership-training program is designed to recognize, encourage, and further develop the leadership skills of selected high school juniors and seniors who have shown a potential for service to their schools and communities.

Sponsored by the Petersburg Rotary Clubs, students are nominated by faculty members at their high schools, based on proven and potential leadership qualities. Two Appomattox Regional Governor's School students, one Petersburg High School student and one Colonial Heights High School student were chosen to attend. Paden Vargo (ARGS) and Caitlin Underhill (CHHS) were sponsored by the Rotary Breakfast Club, and Gabe Boudali (ARGS) and Chad Davis (PHS) were sponsored by the Rotary Lunch Club. Each was invited to attend a Rotary meeting subsequent to the conference to share their experiences with the members.
