Some in Va. GOP again trying to oust Frederick as chairman

Virginia Republicans are gunning -- again -- for their party chairman.

There's another effort under way to remove Jeffrey M. Frederick as GOP leader, perhaps at the next meeting of the party's governing body, the central committee, on April 4.

Party activists -- including John H. Hager, whom Frederick toppled as chairman last May -- say that some Republicans hope to muster the required three-quarters vote of the 78-member central committee to force out Frederick.

The party's rules also require a 30-day notice of an ouster vote. For several days, a number of GOP leaders have tried -- without success -- to contact Frederick. Frederick did not return a telephone call today seeking comment.

Several Republican blogs this morning carried word of the attempted anti-Frederick coup.

Frederick's tenure as Republican chairman has been troubled from the start. He's been blamed for the party's latest setbacks, including the first Republican presidential loss in Virginia in 44 years.

Last December, there was a short-lived push to boot out Frederick, who is giving up his seat representing Prince William County in the House of Delegates to focus on rebuilding the Virginia GOP.

Nonsheeple, I could not disagree with you more.  Republicans are in disarray because the party has abandoned conservative principles.  Perhaps the best example is the nomination of John McCain.  Conservatives simply stayed home during the last election rather than vote for a man that they could not wholly support.  Republican candidates will triumph again when, and only when, they return to conservative values.

Unless and until the Va GOP shifts back toward the center, they will remain a dwindling minority party. The future of the GOP here and in the country lies in the center, not at the extreme right. It has failed!

The problem isn’t Frederick, although he isn’t the answer, either. The problem was Hager and his good ole boys who ran the party into the ground by never looking for qualified candidates. If you got on the ladder at the GOP eventually they’d run you for something. You put Hager and his idiots back in charge and the Virginia GOP is doomed.
