More than 75,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers were without service in the Richmond and Tri-Cities areas as of 1:30 a.m.

The company's Web site also showed more than 10,000 outages in Southside Virginia, many of which were in the Farmville and Charlotte County areas. In other areas, more than 20,000 customers lost power in Gloucester and the Northern Neck, more than 17,000 in Northern Virginia and more than 14,000 were without electricity in the southeastern Virginia region.

Ken Holt, a spokesman for Dominion Virginia Power, said crews were having trouble getting to downed lines because of road conditions. He said lines were down because of snow accumulations and because poles had been struck in vehicle crashes.

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative probably has tens of thousands of customers like me who have lost power, too. I am sure the RTD will include them in their next report.
