A burst of gunfire outside an eastern Henrico County apartment complex yesterday afternoon left two people shot amid a scattering of shell casings.

The double shooting occurred about 2:48 p.m. at the Glenwood Farms apartment complex at Harvie and Bolling roads near Mechanicsville Turnpike, Henrico police spokesman Lt. Doug Perry said.

Perry said the victims, who were not identified, are males in their late teens to early 20s. They were taken to VCU Medical Center.

One of them was shot in the chest and was listed in critical condition. It was unclear whether he would survive, Perry said. The other was shot in the leg and was listed in stable condition.

"That victim was conscious and breathing and talking a little. Hopefully he can shed a little light on what happened," Perry said.

Herman Graham visited the scene after receiving a call that his 20-year-old son, Lavelle, was shot in the leg. Graham said a friend of his son told him a fight preceded the shooting. "When something happens like this, you hope and pray," Graham said.

Police, who canvassed the area for witnesses and evidence, are asking for the public's help. Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
