Virginia Credit Union awards scholarships to 25 students
The Virginia Credit Union has awarded $62,500 in college scholarships to 25 student members through its 2009 Dorothy J. Hall Scholarship Program.
Students selected for the $2,500 scholarships were recognized for scholastic achievement, community service, extracurricular activities, an essay and work to defray the cost of education.
The winners include 13 high school graduates from the Class of 2009 and 12 college students. All of the recipients are Virginians. The high school winners are:
Kayla Carter of Henrico, a graduate of Varina High School
Jessica Chen of Mechanicsville, a graduate of Maggie Walker Governor's School
Victoria Dickens of Richmond, a graduate of James River High School
Emily Fox of Mechanicsville, a graduate of Atlee High School
Jennifer Jackson of Chesterfield, a graduate of Meadowbrook High School
Kendahl Kean of Chester, a graduate of Thomas Dale High School
Michelle Lewis of Richmond, a graduate of Richmond Community High School
Tiffany Shell of Richmond, a graduate of Lloyd C. Bird High School
Brittanie Smith of Chesapeake, a graduate of Hickory High School
Courtney Tackett of Mechanicsville, a graduate of Hanover High School
Alexander Vakili of Henrico, a graduate of Godwin High School
Aria Willis of Dabneys, a graduate of Louisa County High School
Justin Yaworsky of Chesterfield, a graduate of Matoaca High School
In addition, Virginia Credit Union scholarships were awarded to following students already enrolled in college:

Quintin Costin of Henrico, a student at Virginia Tech
Leeand Diggs of Glen Allen, a student at Old Dominion University
S. Price Dunn Jr., of Mechanicsville, a student at Columbia Southern University
Anthony Gavaldon of Goochland, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University
Kelsey Pecsek of Virginia Beach, who will attend Virginia Tech
Letitia Pulliam of Rocky Mount, a student at Liberty University
Sean Sharff of Amelia, a student at James Madison University
Stephanie Siegmund of Chesterfield, a student at Dartmouth College
Thomas Tibbett of Mechanicsville, a student at the College of William and Mary
Sarah Workman of Richmond, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Since 1991, the credit union has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to student members.
Virginia Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative serving more than 188,000 members. Eligible members include employees and retirees of Virginia's state and local governments, public school systems, other approved employee groups and their family members, state college students, as well as individuals who live, work, or attend school in the cities of Richmond, Petersburg, Hopewell and several other localities..
