Yearly Elections Burn Voters Out
Editor, Times-Dispatch: The governor and state and local legislators are always looking for ways to cut costs and save the taxpayers money. I have an easy solution that will save millions: Do away with off-year elections.

Why must Virginia have an election every year? This cost could be cut in half by having our elections every two years when national elections are held. Let the officeholders serve a threeor five-year term to get everyone on the national election cycle. This could be done within two election cycles and save millions.

I spent the recent Election Day working the polls in King and Queen Courthouse with four other people. At least $1,000 was spent at this poll alone. We had only 52 voters out of a possible 940. Think how much was spent statewide. Virginia is burning people out with so many elections.

I can see no benefit in off-year elections. Save the taxpayers money and go to the national election cycle.

Personally, I think we should start with a fresh set of faces every election cycle.
