Woman admits to stealing $488,000 from bank
ABINGDON -- A southwest Virginia woman has pleaded guilty to federal charges that she embezzled nearly $488,000 from the bank where she worked.
U.S. Attorney Julia Dudley today said 35-year-old Rebecca Dawn Long of Jonesville pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court in Abingdon to all charges against her without a plea agreement. They include bank fraud, bank embezzlement, money laundering and making a false statement on a loan document.
Prosecutors say Long admitted that in 2004, she established a line of credit under a fictitious name at The Peoples Bank in Lee County where she worked. She withdrew money over four years.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 28 in Big Stone Gap.

I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE STEALING OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY. I HAVE A REMEDY FOR THAT, YOU PUT THEM TO DEATH. KILL THEM DEAD. YOU CAN REPLACE JEWELY, TV’S BUT YOU CAN’T REPLACE MONEY. HANG’EM, SHOT’EM. FRY’EM, DO SOMETHING TO STOP THIS KIND OF CRAP.
THE FREAK MADOFF THAT STOLE $51 BILLION SHOULD HAVE HIS N_TS CUT OUT AND LET HIM DIE A SLOW DEATH. DEATH TO ALL EMBEZZLERS OF MONEY SMALL OR LARGE.
( Grateful )
do you work for Sprint?
How? HOW?!? Haaaaavvveeee ya’ not been reading the news lately!??!
Banks have been doing shady things for awhile now, and in a small town like Abingdon? They probably trusted her implicitly.
How in the world could she steal almost half a million dollars without anyone noticing?
She would be a prime candidate to work for the I.R.S. Stealing is their number one prerequisite for employment.
Maybe she saw the economy failing ahead of time and made sure she got her bailout first.
I agree with you Dave. I need some bail out money too. My job has put a freeze on my pay, with no bonus or 401K match.
She goes to jail - bank presidents and CEO’s get bailouts.
