Virginia Tech freshman guard Shanel Harrison and Boston College sophomore post player Carolyn Swords were chosen this morning as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Rookie and Player of the Week for the week ending yesterday.

Swords led the Eagles to victories over New Hampshire and Florida International, while Harrison recorded her first collegiate double-double in Sunday's 72-70 overtime win over James Madison.

Swords shot 81 percent (17-for-21), scored 38 points and grabbed 25 rebounds in the Eagles' two games. She is currently shooting 70 percent, a mark that ranks second in the country.

Harrison contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs, to Virginia Tech's 72-70 overtime win over visiting James Madison. After JMU took a 62-60 lead on a 3-pointer with three seconds remaining, Harrison was fouled on a desperation three-point fling from beyond half court.

The freshman stepped to the line with 0.1 remaining in regulation and hit two of three free throws to force overtime. The rookie from Olney, Md., then pulled down a defensive rebound on JMU's final possession of overtime to secure the victory.
