Grading the Three Keys for Richmond
Grading the three keys for Richmond
Control the ball (A) The Spiders rode a high-quality effort from their offensive line and a bounce-off-Grizzlies performance from 232-pound tailback Josh Vaughan (162 rushing yards). Quarterback Eric Ward stuck out, as he has all season, as a game manager.
Create two turnovers (A) Done. Defensive tackle Martin Parker caused Montana quarterback Cole Bergquist to lose a fumble. Linebacker Eric McBride intercepted a pass that bounced off the hands of a Montana receiver. The Spiders got a fourth-quarter field goal after McBride's interception and 21-yard return.
Adjust to the Grizzlies' adjustments (A) Richmond knew the Grizzlies had to pitch their ball-control intentions after UR went up 21-0 at halftime. Montana came out throwing in the third quarter. The Spiders gave up some yards -- but only one touchdown.
