Varina’s Robinson moving to Glen Allen
After six years as Activities Director at Varina High School, Chris Robinson is leaving to take the same position at the new Glen Allen High School in Henrico County.
The school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2010, and Robinson will spend the next year preparing the athletics facilities and teams for the opening.
"The opportunity to be a part of building a program from the ground up was something I couldn't pass up," he said. "I felt like it was an opportunity to make a difference, and I couldn't pass it up."
Robinson has spent the past few weeks wrapping up at Varina before making the move to Glen Allen.
He said he is proud to have added two more sports for females -- field hockey and gymnastics -- during his time at Varina.
"I feel like we hired some good coaches, and the groundwork is laid for success," he said.
The new high school in Glen Allen will draw from the districts currently served by Hermitage, J.R. Tucker, Deep Run and potentially a handful of others.
When the school opens in a little more than a year, it will have a full athletic facility on-site.
"The architects and the county have done a great job of studying what's been done in the past," Robinson said. "They'll integrate some of the things other schools have done."
