Football: Franklin 22, Mathews 21

FRANKLIN -- Lavon Evans rushed for 157 yards on 22 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead Franklin to a nondistrict victory over Mathews.

Evans scored the last of his TDs with 7:47 to play, then ran in the two-point conversion try to put Franklin (3-0) ahead. The Franklin defense, which had given up 15 points in the third quarter, stiffened and shut out Mathews (1-2) the rest of the way.

Chris Davis scored twice for Mathews, an 8-yard run and a 60-yard kickoff return.
