Federal official: Stimulus is helping Va.‘s small businesses

» 9 Comments | Post a Comment

The federal economic stimulus program is working for small business in Virginia, the chief of staff of the U.S. Small Business Administration said.

The SBA has provided more than 2,000 loans worth nearly $280 million to the state's small entrepreneurs, says Ana M. Ma.

"Borrowers are reporting that these loans are saving or creating thousands of jobs around the state," Ma said.

She spoke today to about 120 people at the Virginia Asian Chamber of Commerce's procurement conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel West in Henrico County.

That’s some general, unconfirmed numbers that beg for a further investigation.
Created “thousands” of jobs in Virginia alone?
The rest of the country, who is hemorrhaging jobs after the signing of the “stimulus” would sure like to know how they, too, can create “thousands” of jobs.
Give us some details so we can use those specifics to alert the rest of the country.

This is that cute thing the RTD editors do.  They throw us a few fact-crumbs on a hot-button topic and laugh gleefully as we speculate about “the rest of the story”.

Thst’s right it’s my fault the economy has faltered.  Maybe I should have known better than to start a small business in the first place.  The reason I don’t take home a salary is that I put that money back into the business and my community thru giving.  How very ignornant of me.  Sorry I posted.  Please forgive me, you’re right.

“I have laid off employees and cut back just to be able to provided the service I provide. I have never taken home a salary for myself. “

Sounds like it is your business model that is the problem, not a lack of subsidy from the SBA. How would a loan help your business to be profitable?

Hey not.  I think he knows since he did that job fair and had to extend it because of so many attendees!  Ma is just shilling for Obama.  I am sure she also claims she has saved umpteen gazillion jobs too.

I guess we are all doing so well!  But we are just struggling so hard, we dont know it yet, right not?

This is yet another sticken BO lie from the pit of he11.  I own and operate a small business, here in the Richmond area and this is the very first I heard of these loans.  I hope none of you are ignorant enough to believe all BO’s sticking lies.  I have laid off employees and cut back just to be able to provided the service I provide. I have never taken home a salary for myself. No more LIES.  Why doesn’t this paper check facts before reporting, what country is this?

Will Ms. Ma please provide documentation for all those borrowers reporting news supporting what she says? If the SBA is doing what it says its doing, then why is unemployment around 20% in some parts of SW Virginia? Don’t you think if these loans were doing the trick they would have done something to ‘save’ or ‘create’ a few out there? The public is not stupid. They proved that day before yesterday.

Shhh!  No one tell Eric Cantor.  As one of the leaders of the “Party of No!“, he simply can’t bear to deal with actual facts that the economic stimulus is helping small businesses in Virginia; in fact chances are he will lie and say the opposite.  Meanwhile, health care reform will also benefit many Virginians aside from the fact that McDonnell will hurt many Virginians by opting out if given that choice.
