Richmond-based Thalhimer/Cushman & Wakefield, has opened an office in Lynchburg, marking the sixth office for the commercial real estate firm.

Norman Moon Jr., with nearly 24 years of experience in commercial real estate, has joined Thalhimer as first vice president. He will manage the Lynchburg office.

Formerly, he was senior vice president at Hall Associates in Lynchburg and president of Milton Realty Service Co., which was purchased this year by Hall Associates.

Moon will specialize in office and industrial sales and leasing, as well as real estate consulting and advisory services.

George Lupton III, who brings nearly 10 years of commercial real estate experience in the Lynchburg area, will focus on retail sales and leasing as well as general commercial brokerage.

Lupton joined Milton Realty in 2002 and, most recently, was a commercial sales associate with Hall Associates.

Paul F. Silver, president and chief executive officer of Thalhimer, said the Lynchburg market, the fifth-largest metropolitan area in Virginia, is a strategically important for the company.

"We now have seamless coverage of Virginia from Hampton Roads to Roanoke," Silver said.

Silver noted that Thalhimer has worked on high-profile projects in Lynchburg, representing Wal-Mart, Panera Bread, CVS Pharmacy and the Bedford Humane Society.

Also, Thalhimer is the leasing representative for the 785,000-square-foot River Ridge Mall and the 66,000square-foot Brookville Plaza, both in the Lynchburg area.

Thalhimer has more than 300 employees and 101 brokers, making it the largest real estate brokerage firm in Virginia based on the number of brokers.

The company began expanding by opening a Virginia Beach office in 1994, followed by a Newport News opening two years later. Thalhimer acquired four companies to grow the Hampton Roads brokerage force.

Thalhimer joined with Sullivan Properties last year and with Copty & Co. in Roanoke early this year to open offices in Fredericksburg and Roanoke.
