Circuit City details how liquidation will proceed

» 6 Comments | Post a Comment

A sale of all merchandise in Circuit City's 567 U.S. stores begins today and runs through March.

The chain will change some of its policies and the way it does business as it liquidates its assets:

Discounts: Stores will have items for sale at clearance prices starting today. Prices will drop as the sale goes on.

Gift cards: If you have a Circuit City gift card you still can use it at any store. Starting today, gift cards no longer will be for sale.

Warranties: Warranties will continue to be honored. Customers should call the manufacturer if the product is covered under a manufacturer's warranty. For extended warranties, customers can call the phone number on the bottom of their receipts. Extended warranties still will be available for sale on items purchased during the liquidation.

Web site and call center: Both will go offline tomorrow.

Payment: Stores will accept cash, credit cards and gift cards.

Promotions: Circuit City no longer will offer price-matching or its one-price promise because liquidators are in charge of pricing. Customers will not be able to order merchandise online to pick up at stores.

Returns and refunds: Customers who bought merchandise before yesterday have 14 days to return the item for an exchange or refund. Starting today, purchases cannot be returned or exchanged.

Delivery: Delivery will not be available.

Installation and repairs: Home theatre installation will be available, but there will not be any installations on cars. Repairs in process will be finished, but no new orders will be taken.

Cell phones: Verizon Wireless stores inside most Circuit City stores are not part of the liquidation.

Its not surprising to see this happen. When i go into Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.. prices are always way higher than if you buy the same thing online. Often i’ll go into the store, check out a product, and then buy it from Amazon and save 25-50% .. I’ve been using this site to find some good deals online:

zingsale .com

It’s a free service that tracks prices of products from online stores (like amazon) and sends you an email when the price drops.

Zerro,  Salinas (sp?) is not the owner of circuit city.  He never was.  I believe, based on the sale of the entire company to the 4 liquidators, that he is only going to get back the $ from his shares.  He has no ownership in any of the 4 liquidators.  Thus, the US Taxpayer is not getting ripped off in this transaction….apart from the fact that 34,000 people will most likely be filing for unemployment benefits in 60 days (if they have not found a job in that time).  But, I wouldn’t call that ripping off the tax payer if I were you.  You never know when you might get severed from your company.

What does the Mexican shareholder have to do with it?  I find it real curious the first thing out of your fingertips is in regard to the Mexican shareholder.

He’s not the one who got rid of appliances out of the store.  He’s not the one who was discriminating against black employees at the corporate office.  He’s not the one who sunk millions of wasted dollars into DivX.  He’s not the one who fired all the people who knew stuff because they made too much money to replace them with no-nothings who made less…only to fire them because they made too much money and replace them with no-nothings who made even less.  And yet none of the top brass fired themselves for making too much money.

The Mexican shareholder is not the one who downgraded the customer service or remodeled the stores over and over again.  Why in the heck was the Laburnum Avenue store even opened, if Circuit City was in dire financial straits?  Just because Best Buy opened a new store on Laburnum?

Poor business decision and lack of regard for their customers and employees is what brought Circuit City down.  Blame Schoonover and Sharp and them for bringing down Circuit City, not the Mexican shareholder.  Adios!
