Comcast third-quarter income up 22 percent

PHILADELPHIA -- Comcast Corp. says its third-quarter earnings rose 22 percent because of promotions of its bundled video, phone and Internet plans. But the nation's largest cable TV provider didn't sign up as many new phone and Internet subscribers as last year.

Its investors are anxious for details on how the purchase of a 51 percent stake in NBC Universal would burden Comcast's finances. A deal, valued at around $30 billion, could be announced soon with General Electric Co. which owns 80 percent of NBC Universal.

In the third quarter, Comcast earned $944 million, or 33 cents per share, compared with $771 million, or 26 cents per share, a year earlier.

Revenue rose 3 percent.

Comcast can not compete with Verizon until they start installing their own fiber optic lines.  It is scientifically impossible for them to offer the same caliber of a product right now.

As far as customer service goes, Verizon is better in that regard so far for me.  I did have a problem with one of their employees, but another employee solved my issue in a professional manner, and very quickly.  FiOS all the way!

Maybe it’s Verizon’s union contract that prevents them from hiring unskilled laborers.

Comcast has undoubtedly the most incompetent and ignorant employees of any type of service provider I have ever seen. I recently got rid of them and signed up for Verizon FIOS and I have never been happier. I could care less about the extra $10 or so I spend because it’s worth it not to have to deal with Comcast’s horrible service or waiting 12 hours for them to send some work-release inmate to my house to constantly fix whatever the last one messed up.

They should take the extra money and hire employees in the Richmond area who at least graduated high school and can perform the job. Comcast has some of the dumbest people I have ever spoken to. Case in point…I called for service because my home phone is out for the third time. When the tech had not arrived an hour after my 8 hour time window I called back service. She told me that he had cancelled because they did not confirm I was home. I asked what number she called and she read off my home number. I then told her to tell me what my work order said needed to be done at my home and she says “restore home phone service”.  I asked her why would she call my home phone number to confirm an appt. to restore my home phone and she says that it is Comcast policy and she didnt see a problem with it!!! Yes…some smart ones at Comcast!!!!
