Cheesecake bistro at Stony Point has closed

Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro in the Stony Point Fashion Park served its last meal Sunday night.
It is the second major restaurant to close at the South Richmond mall in less than two years. Uncle Julio's Rio Grande Café closed in early 2007.
"It is a shame to see a second one in the neighborhood go," said Phil Boeglin, manager of Brio Tuscan Grille at Stony Point. "It makes you worry that people are thinking the restaurants at Stony Point are closing, and that is not the case. We are doing just fine."
Officials from Louisiana-based Al Copeland Investments Inc., which operates five restaurant brands, did not return phone calls about why the local eatery closed.
Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro opened here in December 2003. It is not related to The Cheesecake Factory, which operates a similar-style restaurant at Short Pump Town Center.
Joe Frye, the mall manager at Stony Point, said the center's seven other restaurants perform well. The mall will begin looking for a replacement as it has for the space occupied by Uncle Julio's.
"Restaurant deals take time," he said.

What a shame! Is there any word about what they are going to be doing about gift cerficates since they were already paid for? My mom just won a gift certificate for a free cheesecake from her senior citizens group. I guess she won’t be getting any creamy delicious cheesecake.
Though I was not at all a fan—the service was less than stellar—I am surprised they closed. It was always packed in there. It would be interesting to know why.
There is a great restuarant chain in Northern VA. The same operation group runs Carlyles and Sweetwater Tavern. Do your self a favor, really try to get them here. There GREAT!!!!
I find it hard to believe this restaurant was not profitable. It seemed to be packed all the time. Anyone want to shed some light?
