Virginia’s unemployment rate for October fell to 6.3 percent from 6.5 percent in September, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

The bureau, meanwhile, revised the September figure by lowering it by 0.1 percentage point, to reflect more up to date reports from that month.

The October rate is still well above last year’s level, which stood at 4.2 percent.

But Virginia’s unemployment rate remains far lower than the national average, and in October bucked the national trend, which saw a rise in joblessness from September to October.

The number of people unemployed in Virginia fell to 261,700 in October from 270,100 in September.

On a seasonally-adjusted basis, in which the actual numbers are revised to reflect 10-year-averages for monthly changes in employment, Virginia’s unemployment rate held steady a 6.6 percent.

The national rate, on a seasonally-adjusted basis, rose to 10.2 percent in October from 9.8 percent in September.

to say nothing of the underpollution problem we’re having in the Bay watershed.

6.3% indicates an overemployment problem in Virginia. With so many people employed, firms have less leverage to drive down wages and bennies. This is very bad for business and executive compensation packages.

thinklogical,

Obama haters have to keep their powder dry.  They know they are running out of ammunition and it’s a full year until the next election.  They’re sweating already.

Wow - not one comment.  If the headline had been down there would have been endless pontification of the end of the world, the political rhetoric, and ... oh wait, it was positive news.  I know a lot of folks still are struggling, but its good to see us making some headway.
