The president of the Better Business Bureau of Central Virginia tells consumers how to protect themselves from shady transactions.TOM GALLAGHER Metro Business asked Tom Gallagher, president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Central Virginia Inc., how consumers can protect themselves:
"Now is the time, more than anytime that I've seen in my career, when consumers have to be very sure about the transactions we enter into and how we can protect ourselves and take advantage of all of the rights and protection that we have.
"We know about some of the laws.
"But the thing that is most important to all of us is that we take a deep breath -- that we don't enter into a contract that we shouldn't be going into, or if we really want to buy something, that we buy it.
