Teams have just 48 hours to make a film this weekend

Local filmmakers are competing this weekend in the 48 Hour Film Project.

Teams have that amount of time to write, shoot, edit and produce a film. The clock started at 7 p.m. yesterday after teams drew their film genres out of a hat. In addition, they learned the character, prop and line of dialogue that must appear in each film.

Completed films have to be dropped off at The Camel, 1621 West Broad St., at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow. The films have their world premieres July 25 at the Byrd Theatre, at screenings at 11 a.m., 1:30 and 4 p.m.

The 48 Hour Film Project is held in more than 80 cities in the world. The Richmond event is sponsored by the Virginia Film Office, the Virginia Production Alliance, and several local businesses.

One team will be selected as the Richmond winner and will go on to compete against teams from other cities. The top films will screen at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
