Music notes: Michael Jackson continues to dominate record sales
More than 800,000 copies of Michael Jackson releases were sold during the past week -- up from 422,000 the week after his death. The latest figures from SoundScan show that 82 percent of sales were physical albums -- 656,000 versus 144,000 downloaded versions -- a flip from the week before when 57 percent of sales were digital. Meanwhile, Nielsen RingScan reports that more than 336,000 Jackson ringtones were purchased in the past week, compared with 200,000 the week before. And before Jackson's death, 83,000 ringtones of Jackson songs were purchased during 2009. Also, Rolling Stone's special issue commemorating Jackson's life will be in stores tomorrow. . . . On Monday at 10:30 p.m., ESPN will broadcast the Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game, which takes place Sunday as part of the festivities in St. Louis leading up to next week's All-Star Major League Baseball game. Expected to bat are Ashanti, Chingy, Ginuwine, Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys, Nelly and non-music celebs. . . . Roger Daltrey has a solo date penciled in for Chrysler Hall in Norfolk Nov. 18. Tickets go on sale Aug. 8. Also, Bruce Hornsby will appear Sept. 12 at Hampton Bay Days with his Noisemakers band and play a bluegrass set with Ricky Skaggs. Hornsby's new album, "Levitate," is due Sept. 15.

Maroon 5 has recorded a cover of Frank Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight" for an upcoming iTunes tribute to the crooner. . . . The Beastie Boys' landmark "Ill Communication" album will be rereleased Tuesday with bonus material, such as B-sides and rarities. A limited-edition vinyl version of the album comes with a hardcover coffee-table book. . . . The Used will release its fourth studio album, "Artwork," on Sept. 1. Starting July 21, a deluxe version can be pre-ordered at http://www.theused.net. . . . Blake Lewis, the "American Idol" runner-up to Jordin Sparks, will release his second album, "Heartbreak on Vinyl," on Oct. 6.
