MUSIC NOTES: It’s Record Store Day weekend

The nationally recognized Record Store Day is Saturday, and the Richmond and Charlottesville Plan 9 locations are giving away stuff and discounting products. Both the Carytown store and the Albemarle Square location in C'ville are having a storewide 20 percent-off sale tomorrow through Sunday. Live music in Richmond will come from Hex Machine, No BS Brass Band, Cinemasofia and The Recliners from 1:15 to 6:30 p.m. In C'ville, Andrew Hoover, Tony Lucca and Pat McGee will perform from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., with an "all-star jam" at 3:30 p.m. . . . Jason Mraz will receive an award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June. The Hal David Starlight Award is given to gifted young songwriters; previous recipients include Alicia Keys and John Mayer. . . . The Dave Matthews Band is offering a free download of the new "Funny the Way It Is" at http://www.dmband.com.

ALBUM NEWS

A solo hits collection from George Harrison, "Let It Roll: Songs By George Harrison," will be released June 16. The disc includes digitally remastered tracks and a booklet featuring rare photos. . . . Jason Castro is the latest "American Idol" to score a record contract.
