Journey and Night Ranger at Richmond Coliseum

Classic rockers Journey, along with fellow ‘80s arena-fillers Night Ranger, have teamed for a tour that will stop at Richmond Coliseum on Sept. 15.

Journey, which includes longtime members Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory and Deen Castronovo, has had great touring success since enlisting Arnel Pineda as lead singer in 2007. Pineda is the band’s third frontman since Steve Perry departed in 1998.

Night Ranger, whose 1984 hit “Sister Christian” remains a pop culture mainstay, is currently comprised of original members Jack Blades, Kelly Keagy and Brad Gillis, along with guitarist Joel Hoekstra (who also plays in the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages”) and keyboardist Christian Matthew Cullen.

Tickets, priced at $39.50-$69.50, are on sale at 10 a.m. June 5 at the Richmond Coliseum box office, http://www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000.

I would definitely pay to see Journey, even without Steve Perry.  It’s too bad that have to play in the rat hole of Richmond, but I doubt they would play at a small venue like Innsbrook. At least they are a good band, not like the “rap crap” that usually plays at the coliseum.

Those ticket prices might make sense in 1983, but to me this looks more like a $20 show at Innsbrook.

$40-$70 for tickets to see Journey (minus Steve Perry) and Night Ranger? Somebody’s high off of hairspray fumes.

I guess they’ll come back and remember that the acoustics in the Coliseum are just as bad now as they were in the 80s!

Dang, I’m rearranging my sock drawer that night.
