Windemere Art Gallery in Mechanicsville recently opened "Home Place Creations of Mother and Son," a show of oil-on-canvas paintings by artist Chris Harman and his mother, Joyce Harman.

Chris, who became a quadriplegic in 1977 after a swimming accident, works with a paintbrush held between his teeth. He started painting about a year ago; Joyce has been painting for more than 50 years.

"I think it's a good exhibition to see because it shows that you don't have to stop just because you have a disability," Joyce Harman said. "Chris has been like a different person since he's been painting. It's a good thing for people in his condition or otherwise to see."

The exhibition runs through Sept. 18 at 6162 Mechanicsville Turnpike. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
