Red Door Gallery to open its group exhibition
Red Door Gallery's "2009 Group Exhibition," featuring works by 11 Richmond artists, opens tomorrow with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m.
"It's a smorgasbord of art," said gallery manager Meredith Timberlake. "There are all kinds of media, all very affordable."
Work by Marnie Wolfford, who manages an independent computer store, includes collages as well as three-dimensional wall sculptures made with old computer parts, reflecting her commitment to recycling.
The show also includes James Timberlake's large-scale abstract paintings in which he applies oil paint and wax to wood panels before scraping the surface to reveal the layers underneath.
On view by LeeAnne Wright are "fabulous little oil-on-canvas aerial landscapes" that effectively emphasize light and shadow, Meredith Timberlake said.
The exhibition runs through Aug. 15 at 1607 W. Main St. Hours are 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
