News from Chesterfield Community High School
Chesterfield Community High announced recent happenings at the school. Among them:
- On March 16, Chesterfield Community High School celebrated Pi Day. Pi Day is March 14 because of the mathematical formula for Pi: 3.14. But that was a Saturday, so students celebrated March 16 with fruit pies donated from Chester Walmart. Students and faculty purchased pies, which were sold as a fundraiser for the prom. The Prom Committee is accepting donations to help with this year's event. Contact for more information.
- The first members of the Chesterfield Community High School National Honor Society were inducted during a March 19 ceremony held at the school. Four students, senior David Copeland , and sophomores Adam Coghill, Jeysel Garcia, and Johnny Wertz, were inducted. Students are invited to join the NHS based on scholarship, leadership, service and character. The guest speaker, Ed Witthoefft, talked about these qualities and closed with a quote from Abigail Van Buren (Dear Abby), " The best index to a person's character is how he treats people who can't do him any good and how he treats people who can't fight back." After the induction, the students and their families joined honor roll students in a breakfast prepared by the Beta Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Chesterfield Community High's National Honor Society has planned its first service event: a blood drive on March 31 in the school library.
- Each year the Midlothian Rotary Club recognizes two students from each Chesterfield County public school, chosen by the school for exhibiting core values of respect, responsibility, honesty and accountability. This year, Chesterfield Community High recognizes as 9/10th grade Student of the Year - Adam Coghill as ninth-/10th-grade Student of the Year. The 11th-/12th-grade Student of the Year is Juhahn Robinson. On April 30, there will be a dinner at the Holiday Inn Koger Center honoring these students and their parents.
- Also, some outstanding students were recognized at the Student of Month assembly on March 17. The Student of the Month assembly gives teachers the chance to let students know teachers appreciate their hard work and dedication to education. Cherell Jones and Raymeka White were winners of the Student of the Month drawing.
- Career and Technical Education, Art and ELL students at Chesterfield Community High visited Washington on March 13. Students and chaperones visited many of the museums surrounding the National Mall.
