Hanover students sought for Youth Service Council

The Hanover Youth Service Council (HYSC) is seeking middle and high school students interested in community service and leadership. The deadline to apply is April 13.

The council brings together students from throughout Hanover County who demonstrate a strong commitment to the values of leadership and service. Membership is limited to 30 youth countywide and is based on a wide array of criteria. Applicants must be middle or high school students who are current residents of Hanover, and who are actively involved in or exhibit dedication to service within their school or community.

Council members plan and conduct various monthly service projects. Some recent projects include helping Hanover Habitat for Humanity, assisting with activities for disabled adults, conducting a countywide school supply drive for elementary school students in need and promoting literacy projects for preschool children. Since its beginning in 1998, council members have volunteered more than 5,100 hours.
