Career-transition workshops at libraries available for people looking for jobs

The Pamunkey Regional Library offers help to people who are looking for a job. This includes career-transition workshops which help participants use library resources to create résumés, search online for jobs and complete job applications.

"These workshops can help customers who don't quite feel comfortable using a computer," said Jessica Schelleng, reference librarian for the Mechanicsville branch library. "We can work with them one on one."

Library staff have been trained to show customers how they can find job sites online and use a template to construct a résumé (the staff will provide the template, not write the résumé). Staff will also show people how to set up an e-mail account if they haven't done so and talk about e-mail etiquette.

The next Career Transition Workshop will be at the Mechanicsville Library on March 31, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Classes are being scheduled at other branches as well. Currently scheduled are April 14 and April 23 workshops at the Cochrane Rockville Library and April 18 at the Lois Wickham Jones Montpelier Library.

All branches of the Pamunkey Regional Library have computers and wi-fi internet access.
