Veterans Day ceremonies and activities in the Richmond area: TOMORROW
Virginia War Memorial, 621 S. Belvidere St. The American Legion's 11th District will co-sponsor a 10 a.m. ceremony that features guest speaker Brig. Gen. Jesse Cross, 50th Quartermaster General; wreath presentations; a rifle salute and more. For details, call (804) 786-2060.
Goochland County Courthouse, 2938 River Road. American Legion Post 215 will sponsor a ceremony from 11 a.m. to noon featuring speaker retired U.S. Capt. Cathy Wilson. Also includes a Marine Veterans Color Guard presentation and music by the Goochland High School Band. For details, call (804) 708-0513.
Benedictine High School, 304 N. Sheppard St. A 2 p.m. ceremony with guest speaker Col. George Ivey, a pass-in-review by the Benedictine cadets and a performance by the John Marshall Alumni Band. For details, call (804) 749-4129.
Hanover Veterans Memorial, at Hanover Wayside Park on U.S. 301. A 2 p.m. ceremony will feature guest speakers, laying of the memorial wreath and a rifle salute. For details, call Hanover Parks and Recreation at
(804) 365-4695.Hollywood Cemetery. At noon, the John Marshall Cadet Alumni Association will honor the 76 former cadets who died defending our nation. Speaker will be Dr. John D. Talley, former 1st Captain of the Corps. Talley served in Vietnam with the First Infantry Division and was awarded a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, the Soldier's Medal and the Combat Air Medal. A performance by the Cadet Alumni Band will follow.
Historic 1917 Chesterfield County Courthouse, 10011 Iron Bridge Road in Chesterfield. A 2 p.m. ceremony with guest speaker Charles E. Sepich, director of Hunter Holmes McGuire Richmond Veterans Administration Medical Center. For details, call the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia at (804) 796-7121.
Armstrong High School, 2300 Cool Lane. A ceremony will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., featuring a pass-in-review by the Armstrong High School Junior ROTC cadets and performances by the school's band and choir. For details, call (804) 648-8027.
SATURDAYBensley Park, 2900 Drewrys Bluff Road. A ceremony will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The guest speaker will be World War II veteran Al Rinaldi, who was the longtime football coach at Highland Springs High School in Henrico County. The Fort Lee Army Band will perform with vocals by the Thomas Dale High School chorus. For details, call David Potter at (804) 275-5321.
