Money management, parenting workshops set

The Daughters of Zelophehad Inc., in partnership with Faithful Assistants Inc., will offer four, 3-hour credit, debtand money-management workshops scheduled Feb. 7 and 21, and March 7 and 21.

Participants will gain an understanding of how to improve credit scores, how to manage debt and the financial principles necessary to experience financial success. The financial workshops will be based on the Commonsense Way To Wealth coaching curriculum. The goal is to bring awareness to the importance of building a solid financial foundation by providing the tools and resources needed to improve financial literacy.

Sessions will be at All Souls Presbyterian Church, 19 Overbrook Road in Richmond, all from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $15 for materials and light refreshments. Baby-sitting services will be available.

Also, Parenting Skills for Today's Families workshops are scheduled Feb.10, 17, 21, 24, and March 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31.

Workshops will be at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 5155 Ironbridge Road in Chesterfield County. Weekly sessions will be 6-8:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided. Child care will be available. Parenting Skills for Today's Families workshops use components from the internationally recognized Strengthening Families Program. Programs will involve children, spouses or primary caretakers. The workshops are designed to assist families in using important tools such as communication, conducting family meetings, rewarding positive behavior and handling negative behavior.

School plans 'Holocaust Night of Remembrance'

Manchester Middle School's "Holocaust Night of Remembrance" will be Feb. 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.

The event will feature performances by the school band, chorus and orchestra. In addition, audience members will break out into groups and visit exhibits featuring student work. Exhibits will include musical presentations, drama, visual art, technology arts and literary works.

Proceeds will benefit the education department of the Virginia Holocaust Museum. The museum's director, Holocaust survivor Jay M. Ipson, and education director and education specialist will speak. Tickets are $3 per person and are being sold in advance, not at the door.

David Burhans from the University of Richmond will give the invocation.

"Holocaust Night of Remembrance" is designed to teach students the importance of working for peace and tolerance in the community and beyond.

Tickets may be purchased by mail or in person at Manchester Middle School, 7401 Hull Street Road in Chesterfield County. Checks should be made to the Virginia Holocaust Museum.
