Memorial service for Richard Vaughn of Dinwiddie is Wednesday

DINWIDDIE -- A memorial service for Richard Lynn Vaughn of Dinwiddie County, who served from 1977 to 1993 as superintendent of the Dinwiddie school system, will be held Wednesday at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Mr. Vaughn, 78, died Friday in a Petersburg facility for people with Alzheimer's disease.

Before serving in Dinwiddie, he had been superintendent of the Franklin school system since the late 1960s and had taught in the Lynchburg school system before that.

The Lynchburg native earned a bachelor's degree from Lynchburg College and served in the Army during the Korean War era.

Mr. Vaughn was formerly active in Ruritan Club, Lions Club and Masonic activities.

Survivors include his wife since 1968, Karen Scruggs Vaughn; two sons, Richard Vaughn of Dinwiddie and Christopher Vaughn of Chesapeake; and three grandchildren.
