What’s Happening: Living statues help set stage for children’s theatre fundraiser
Guests took in Italian opera and the Belle Isle String Quartet while also enjoying watching living statues on Oct. 24 at Christian Youth Theater Richmond's second-annual fundraiser, "Bella Notte, An Evening in Italy."
As more than 150 patrons enjoyed Italian hors d'eourves and bidding at the silent auction, theater students Emma Fitch and Morgan Patrick stood completely still, dressed in white from head to toe.
The living statues, conceived and designed by costumers Jeanne Nugent and Sharon Dintaman, remained on display for several hours until the auctioneer took the stage for the main event -- a live auction.
The event, held at Tuckahoe Women's Club, raised more than $13,000 for Christian Youth Theater, an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 4 to 18.

About 150 guests celebrated the induction of 13 new members into the Richmond Tennis Hall of Fame on Oct. 24.
The Richmond Tennis Association-sponsored event had not been held since 1995, so this year's ceremony included individuals and organizations originally selected for 1997, as well as those for 2009.
The event at the Westwood Club started with cocktails and a silent auction before dinner and the ceremony.
Bill Correll recognized the 13 previous inductees from 1990 and 1995. Lou Einwick, a Hall of Fame member, followed with introductions of the 1997 inductees. Bill Correll and Lou Einwick then shared the duties of introducing this year's.
The 1997 inductees included Jerry Depew, Frank Maloney III, Massie Valentine, and Home Beneficial Life Insurance.
This year's class included Tom Cain, Kathleen Cummings, Rodney Harmon, Wade McGuire, John Packett, Mark Vines, Hugh Waters, Davenport and Co., and the Westwood Club.
The event raised more than $2,000 for the tennis association to use in funding tennis programs around the Richmond area.
