Community plans ecumenical service to honor Buddha's enlightenment

The Ekoji Buddhist Sangha community plans to hold an ecumenical service on Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at the temple at 3411 Grove Ave. to commemorate Buddha's attainment of enlightenment.

Buddha is the title given to Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism, who was born about 2,500 years ago into a royal family in Nepal, according to literature about Buddhism.

The commemoration will include chanting, traditional Buddhist rituals and readings about different ways of looking at Buddha's enlightenment.

Richmond prayer project focuses on healthy relationships, those in need

People in need have been the focus this month for churches participating in the yearlong Metro Richmond at Prayer project.

The prayer for next week is: "We pray for the poor and those people in financial need in metropolitan Richmond: for healthy marriages; for constructive, safe, and caring households for the bringing up and nurture of children and caring for the elderly; for sufficient employment to make healthy family life possible."
