First lady’s influence on fashion is awaited
Inaugural Ball Gowns
From his studio in Carytown Michael Taylor is making at least six gowns that area women will where to inaugural balls.Society is breathlessly awaiting the unveiling of Michelle Obama's inaugural gown.
Everyone is trying to get in on the act. Women's Wear Daily asked notable designers to sketch what they believe she'll wear Tuesday night.
Designer Vera Wang already confirmed to New York newspapers that she isn't the designer. The easy bet is designer Maria Pinto of Chicago, who has dressed Obama before. Pinto gowns run from $1,200 to $5,000 -- not exactly recession chic, but reasonable for a couture dress.
Most designers are curious to see what influence the new first lady will have on fashion. Obama has shown that she's just as comfortable in off-the-rack pieces from J. Crew, White House/Black Market and Target as she is in designer duds.
Michael Taylor of Michael Taylor Couture in Richmond believes we're going to see the young Kennedys reborn.
"The first family will represent again that setting of trends for the American dream," he said. "Clean simple clothes, tasteful fabrics, always representing quality and taste for clothes the average person could see themselves in."
