Cancer Society’s health forum for black men set Feb. 7

The American Cancer Society will host its third annual "African American Men's Health Forum" from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, 403 N. Third St.

Local health experts will discuss health disparities, cardiovascular health, diabetes health, mental health, nutrition and exercise. Local cancer experts will discuss the prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer, prostate cancer and lung/oral cancers.

Attendees will receive free lunch and health screenings for body-mass index (BMI), cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose, HIV, mental health and oral cancer. Prostate cancer screenings will not be conducted on site; however, Virginia Urology will provide PSA test vouchers to 200 qualified attendees who can be screened at a Virginia Urology facility after the event.

Miss Community Clovia of Radio One Richmond, Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones and Dr. Lance B. Watson, senior pastor of St. Paul's Baptist Church, are scheduled to appear.
