The Children's Hospital Foundation's 15th annual bowl-a-thon and the second Battle of the Banks Bowl-a-thon raised nearly $10,000 for the foundation.

The event, held Feb. 21 at Shrader Lane, attracted 25 teams of five bowlers. They represented area businesses and civic groups, including Direct Mail Solutions, American Family Fitness, Hill Phoenix and Fifth Baptist Church.

Ben Edgell of First Market Bank was the top fundraiser, bringing in more than $750. Second and third place for fundraising went to Sandy Krajacich with Bank of Virginia and Gwen Douglas with the Commonwealth Attorney's Office.

The Battle of the Banks Bowl-a-thon featured teams from BB&T, Bank of Virginia, Dominion Credit Union, First Market Bank, Village Bank, Virginia Commonwealth Bank and Wachovia. Bank of Virginia won the Banker's Cup, which is awarded for the highest average funds raised per team member.

Children's Hospital is a specialty pediatric facility that serves nearly 6,700 children each year.
