The Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K is one of those rare events that brings together serious athletes, couch potatoes and Civil War generals -- not to mention cheerleaders, Cub Scouts and Parrot Heads.

On Saturday for the 10th anniversary of the race, more than 32,000 runners will be joined by an estimated 50,000 spectators, transforming Richmond's most recognizable and revered street into a teeming party zone of music, fun and 20,000 bagels (cinnamon raisin, wheat and blueberry) for runners. A huge post-race bash is planned for Monroe Park.

"It's the best people-watching opportunity Richmond has," said Mike McCormick, spokesman for Richmond Sports Backers, which organizes the annual event.

Here are race details:

Starting times:

8 a.m. -- First Market Mile Kids Run (Cathedral Place)

8:30 a.m. - Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K (Broad, near Harrison)

Admission: Free

Parking: Race organizers recommend looking east of Belvidere for on-street and surface-lot parking. Paid parking available in ($5 per vehicle) in decks.
