Bal du Bois sponsors are introduced

WHAT'S HAPPENING

The Junior Board of Sheltering Arms Rehabilitation Hospital hosted a coffee Dec. 19 at its Mechanicsville facility to introduce its slate of sponsors for the 2009 Bal du Bois, the annual fundraiser now beginning its 53rd season.

Funds raised by the Bal support many of the hospital's programs including acute care, inpatient, outpatient, and Partner for Life. It contributes to the purchase of state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment and offers assistance to underinsured patients.

Sponsor chairwoman Karen Wise welcomed 32 college-age women -- many of whom were meeting one another for the first time -- to the Friday-morning get-acquainted event. On behalf of the Junior Board, president Sallie Stillwell voiced heartfelt appreciation for the sponsors' commitments and contributions.

Mike McDonnell, chief operating officer, emphasized the hospital's mission of providing comprehensive physical rehabilitation for patients who have suffered setbacks because of injuries or illness. A hospital tour and walkabout rounded out the morning and gave sponsors a firsthand glimpse of just what their fundraising supports.

A total of 35 sponsors will be presented at the 53rd Bal du Bois June 5 at the Country Club of Virginia. They are:
