Ashland resident organizes unique tea to benefit Hilliard House
Want to experience an authentic British tea and watch a fashion show straight from the disco era at the same time?
Ashland resident Carolyn Peart has organized a High Noon Tea to raise money for the Hilliard House, a program that helps homeless women and children in the Richmond area.
This year's tea will be May 3 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Hanover Arts & Activities Center, 500 S. Center St. in Ashland.
It will feature songs from the movie "Mamma Mia." Attendees will get to see the dancing-queens skit from last month's Ashland Variety Show and a fashion show featuring the best clothes of the 1970s.
"We're trying to create an event that becomes a destination and gives back to the community, but reflects the community in itself," Peart said.
Patrons will be served tea or hot chocolate, along with tea sandwiches and British scones with Devonshire cream.
Seating is limited to 150 people, but tickets are still available. The cost is $15 for ages 13 and up, and $5 for 12 and under.
This is the second year for the tea. Last year's theme celebrated the town's 150th anniversary.
It is Peart's second fundraiser for the Hilliard House. She holds a holiday event at her home at which people can make their own wreaths from fresh greenery.
Tea attendees also will be given a Hilliard House wish list with everyday household items that they can donate.
