Mechanicsville Library seeking community assistance for move

Moving day is next weekend for the Mechanicsville Library, and staff members are asking for the community's help.
As is the tradition when a new library opens within the Pamunkey Regional Library system, volunteers are asked to help move the books and materials from the old location to the new location.
Jaime Stoops, Mechanicsville's branch manager, said she's signing up volunteers now for the May 16 move from the current library at 7179 Stonewall Parkway to new building at 7461 Sherwood Crossing Place, off U.S. 360 near Lee-Davis High School.
Anyone with a truck or large vehicle can help. The move starts around 8:30 a.m.
"We're not moving furniture," Stoops said. "It's mainly supplies and the books."
A few businesses have donated trucks, Stoops said.
"I hope it's going to be a nice day so we can use people's pick-up trucks," she added.
The new location is just a couple miles from the current building, and Stoops said she could use about 100 volunteers. So far, she has about 50. She said lunch will be provided for volunteers.
The current library has been in use since 1983.
Once the move is complete, the building will eventually be turned over to the Hanover County Department of Community Services for use as an adult day-support facility.
