Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. strongly defended the economic stimulus package today, telling an audience at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College that it has saved the economy.
"I'm absolutely, positively confident we are on the right track," he said of the $787 million package.
Biden addressed a crowd of about 140 community college students and invited guests.
Biden, joined onstage by Richmond Police Chief Bryan T. Norwood, also announced a $1.59 million law enforcement grant for the city of Richmond.
Without naming names, Biden appeared to taunt Rep. Eric I. Cantor, R-7th, the No. 2 Republican in the House of Representatives, for criticizing the stimulus package while favoring the use of stimulus money for high-speed rail.
In a conference call with reporters earlier this afternoon, Cantor criticized President Barack Obama's stimulus package as a failed government program that hasn't delivered on its promise to create more jobs.
Biden next heads to a private fundraiser in Henrico for state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, the Democratic nominee for governor.

Oh holy cow. I couldn’t type this for 30 minutes because I was laughing so hard at Biden.
The porkulus bill has “saved the economy?“ Someone needs to ‘splain to him that the only thing the porkulus bill has created is the biggest deficit in US history.
DAMN what an idiot he is.
So who is this Fernandez fool and how can I make sure to avoid his products?
Biden did his job. And did it being himself. When asked a few months ago about the stimulus plan he said that the problems were much larger and more complex than they had anticipated. Since then, 1 millon more have lost their jobs. Where’s the job creation? Imagination? It has funded states and localities so that projected job cuts weren’t necessary. Why were they necessary? Took for granted that the tax base will grow? Aren’t they the ones who write eviction notices for the pepole who “bought too much house” because they thought their income would grow? Gotta go, I have to learn how to lawfully waste someone else’s money and make it sound good. Nevermind. The line is too long and they all have gas.
This is the same guy who told a bussed in crowd earlier today of the Obama supporting AARP that “unless the Democrat-supported health care plan becomes law the nation will go bankrupt and that the only way to avoid that fate is for the government to spend more money.“
It looks like his handlers realized how moronic that statement was, even for the AARP, and told him not to pull that one out again while in Richmond.

Please - get this boob and his goon squad out of town. Ask a business owner if the economy has been saved or if “we’re” on the right track. No relief in sight.
