Person of interest in Henrico woman’s death remains behind bars
Kayla Camille Armstrong remained behind bars today, failing again in efforts to secure a bond that could allow her release.
Defense lawyer Dennis Martin argued in Henrico Circuit Court today that Armstrong, 25, is being held without bond because she's been named "a person of interest" in a brutal New Year's Eve murder. But she's not charged with that.
"If she's going to be charged with homicide then charge her, but if she's not, release her on bond," Martin told Henrico Circuit Judge Daniel T. Balfour.
Balfour acknowledged that Armstrong is currently being held with no bond on a relatively minor misdemeanor charge -- vandalism -- but he sided with prosecution arguments that Armstrong's past indicates she represents a threat.
Last week, a Henrico General District Court judge set a $25,000 bond for Armstrong on assault and breaking and entering charges.
Police found the barely alive body of 26-year-old Keiona Cecilia Tiree Braxton in her burning Crenshaw Road apartment off Chamberlayne Ave. in the early morning hours of Dec. 31. She died at the scene.
She was pregnant with her boyfriend's baby, her family has said; the father is the same man who fathered a child with Armstrong.

Every day for the next four to five months we will have to read about this senseless and brutal murder (courtesy of the Richmond Times Dispatch) We will have to read how NOW the JUDGE finds this alledged killer a threat to society and keeps her in jail! We will hear about the victim’s entire life since the moment of her birth and all the good and worldly things she did in her life before falling in love with a man and deciding to have his child (what number child has not been disclosed yet) all while dodging some crazy woman he impregnanted years before! How the victim DECIDED to remain in this relationship suffering physical assaults, emotional tirades and time-consuming visits to the police stations for some magical “protection”! It will wrap up with the disgraceful fist fight that followed this poor victim and her unborn child to her grave. ANOTHER CHILD WILL BE RAISED BY THE COMMUNITY OR VILLAGE OR TRIBE! THE END
