Gov. Timothy M. Kaine announced yesterday that the Amelia and Dinwiddie county school divisions were selected to receive grants to improve school safety.

Twenty-one localities across the state were chosen to receive a total of 28 grants to fund school resource officers.

Amelia was selected for two grants at $50,000 each. Dinwiddie received one for $49,820.

The school resource officer program provides law enforcement officers in middle high and alternative schools to ensure safety and prevent truancy.
